SUNS Charity Hoopfest
Welcome to the sixth annual Calgary SUNS Girls Basketball Tournament to benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Last year we raised over $3,500 and this year our goal is a $5,000 donation to fight breast cancer. The tournament organizing committee wishes you a weekend of fun and a rewarding basketball experience. Please enjoy the many services our community has to offer.
Breast Cancer Fundraiser:
The tournament is a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. A table will be set up at all gyms to accept donations for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
FIBA Rules will be used. Note the main points of emphasis: games will consist of 4 – 9 minute stop time quarters with a 5 minute half time break (The time for each quarter is a tournament modification to FIBA rules – actual time is 10 minute quarters) warm-up will be 5-10 minutes – this will be adjusted according to available time our goal is to keep all tournament games running on time 24 second shot clock rule will be in effect; referee to provide 10 sec warning 8 second back court rule will be in effect 2 time outs in the 1st half, 2 time outs in the second half & 1 time out in OT Over-time will consist of “First team to score 4 points wins!”
SCORERS & TIMERS:
Each team is to provide a scorer or a timer for each game they play. A Gym Supervisor will be in attendance at each game to remind the coach of this responsibility. This requirement greatly assists with the smooth running of the tournament and keeps our tournament entry fee at a reasonable amount. Thank you for your support.
PLAYER of the GAME AWARDS:
At the end of each game after the teams shake hands we would ask the teams and coaches to line up at centre court for the presentation of the “Player of the Game” awards. Each coach will be asked to select the “Player of the Game” for the opposing team.
All age brackets can press anytime. Mercy rule – age categories U13 and U15 cannot press when they lead by 15 points or more. There is no “mercy rule” for U17 but we would encourage coaches to follow the U15 mercy rule.
All teams need to submit their roster by Thursday May 12th by 6pm 2016 to email@example.com. We need the players’ names, jersey numbers and birth dates. Overage players are only allowed with a prior permission request. Once rosters are submitted no substitutions are allowed during the tournament.
All games will be played at Mount Royal University Recreation Center & Bishop Pinkham School.
We will have volunteers serving the tournament as “911” operators to provide you with a number to call in case of problems or an emergency.
